The project involves the expansion of the Kalamboli-Sinhgad Institute expressway from the existing six lanes to 14 lanes.
The project will include the construction of a 9.9km tunnel between Khopoli and Lonavala to keep the two roads separate between Kalamboli and Khopoli up to Lonavala. The tunnel will pass through the Bhushi Dam, to minimize the travel time.
The project will also include the construction of six-lane roads from Shilphata to Kalamboli, and Dehu Road to Nigadi, a new 12-km long bypass with two tunnels and two viaducts.
An expert committee was constituted to conduct a feasibility study for the project. The committee submitted its report to MSRDC.
