Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) is planning to construct a road project in Western Australia.
The project involves construction of a 7km four-lane road. It will be developed in two stages, a southern section and northern section.
The southern section will include the construction of a 1.8km between Bussell Highway and Rosa Brook Road and the northern section includes the construction of a 5.2km road from Rosa Brook Road to Bussell Highway.
It also includes the construction of access roads, roundabouts, intersections, a bridge and related infrastructure, and the installation of signaling and safety systems.
In August 2012, state government allocated US$11 million funding for the Southern Section.
In November 2012, a detailed Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project was completed.
In September 2014, National Party of Western Australia (Nationals WA) announced grant of US$56 million funds for the northern section.
In May 2015, construction works on the stage one were completed.
In December 2015, state government is in the process of allocating US$42 million funding for stage two.
Southwest Development Commission was appointed as a consultant.
In March 2016 MRWA met with the Riverslea Community Group Committee to provide a project update.
In October 2016, excavation activities commenced. They include clearing underlying rocks to construct permanent fencing, geo-technical investigations, service relocation, finalizing the gravel sources and finalizing the bridge design and associated construction method to minimize the environmental footprint.
In May 2017, Construction works commenced and are underway.
