The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd (MRVC) is planning to undertake the construction of a rail corridor from Panvel to Karjat in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
The project involves the construction of a 56km rail line and being developed in phases. It includes the construction of new stations, shafts, walk ways, escape tunnels, the laying of tracks, the installation of fire detection, extinguishing systems, lighting, overhead sign structures and related facilities.
In May 2012, MMRDA approved a feasibility study for the extension of the line between Panvel and Karjat.
In June 2015, Union Ministry of Railways and Maharashtra government signed several agreements including an (MoU) Memorandum of Understanding for setting up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).
In August 2016, NITI Aayog approved the plans for the project.
Planning activities are underway.
