The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) is planning to upgrade Battambang to Sri Sophorn Section of National Road No.5 Improvement project in Cambodia.
The project involves the upgrade of a 47km road, the expansion of bridge width between Battambang to Sri Sophorn Section and widening of a road into four lanes.
The project will include the construction of a 23.1km Battambang bypass in two lanes, 13.4km Sri Sophorn bypass in two lanes, four new bridges, two widening bridges and extensions to existing and new box culverts and other related infrastructural facilities which comprise of drainage, slope protection, guardrails and signs etc.
On May 16, 2013, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an official development assistance (ODA) loan agreement with the Government of Cambodia to provide a loan of up to US$86 million.
Korea Consultants International has been appointed to undertake consulting services and detailed designs.
The Government of Cambodia has received loans from JICA.
On March 29, 2016, MPWT invited tenders for the main contractor with bids submission due date as June 3, 2016.
The Seaboard Cambodian Development Construction Company Ltd has been appointed as the construction contractor.
On April 10, 2017, construction activities commenced and are slated for completion by February 2020.
