Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Laos (MPWT) and Ministry of Transport, Vietnam (MoT) are planning to build a rail link from Vientiane to the port of Vung Ang in Laos.
The project involves the construction of a 550km rail line. It includes the laying of railway tracks and the installation of electrical and mechanical equipment, and signaling and telecommunication systems.
In July 2015, Korea Rail Network Authority and Seoul University expects to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed project.
In October 2015, Vietnam transport ministry and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) have agreed to study the feasibility.
Van Phu Constructor Consultant Joint Stock Company was appointed as the study consultant.
In July 2016, KOICA granted US$3.5 million for the feasibility study and are expected to be completed by December 2017.
The project involves the construction of a 550km rail line connecting from Vientiane to the port of Vung Ang in Laos.
