Mississippi Power Company (MPRWL) and US Navy in partnership with Silicon Ranch Corp are planning to construct a renewable energy plant at site near Bonhomie Road-WSF Tatum Boulevard intersection, in Mississippi, the US.
The project involves the construction of a 50MW solar power farm on 182ha of land. It includes the construction of a substation, a control building, access roads and related infrastructure, the installation of 600,000 "First Solar Series 4" photo-voltaic solar panels mounted directly on the ground via steel support structures, and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
On April 2, 2015, MPRWL filed a planning application with Mississippi Public Service Commission for approval.
Silicon Ranch Corporation will fund, own, and operate the project.
First Solar has been appointed to supply solar panels, and DuFour Conapinski LLP to provide legal advisory services.
On April 23, 2015, MPRWL and Silicon Ranch signed an agreement with Strata to undertake the construction. Under the terms, MPRWL will receive all of the energy and associated renewable energy credits generated by the project, which it may use to serve its customers with renewable energy or use it for future renewable energy programs, or sell at wholesale to third parties.
On November 10, 2015, MPRWL and Silicon Ranch secured the necessary approvals from Mississippi Public Service Commission for project implementation.
On April 27, 2016, a ground breaking ceremony held, marking the start of construction.
Construction works are underway and scheduled to complete in 2017.
