On June 3, 2015, the City Planning Commission discussed conceptual plans for the project with City staff and MPC. Later commissioners approved the project and asked MPC to increase the amount of affordable housing and to decrease office space.
On October 20, 2015, the Santa Monica City Council members asked MPC to reduce The Plaza's proposed office space by nearly half and the project's overall size by 3,345m2.
On February 9, 2017, project plans were revised.
