The Manama Municipality (MM) is planning to undertake the redevelopment of the Manama Central Market project in Bahrain.
The project involves the construction of four 28-story office and shopping towers.
It includes the construction of car parks levels, shops, offices, garden areas, a five-star hotel, water features and coffee shops, housing offices and apartments, swimming pools, multi-purpose halls, gyms and other related infrastructural facilities and the installation of elevators, safety and security systems.
The project was initially proposed in 2008; however, the project was delayed due to financial issues.
In January 2011, Tashgeel was appointed as PMC contractor.
In January 2012, the officials of Northern Municipality ordered Manama Municipality to revise the scope of the project to lower the number of floors to be built and some changes to the public transport pool.
In July 2014, three investors, which include two Bahrainis, agreed for the investment on the initial phase of project development.
However, in January 2016, the project is placed on hold due to lack of investors.
As of October 2016, the project is awaiting approvals for development.
The project involves the redevelopment of central market at the former GCC (Pearl) Roundabout in Manama, Bahrain.
The US$526 million project includes the following:
