Manchester Life Development Company (MLDC), a joint venture between Manchester City Council (MCC) and Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUGDI) is undertaking the construction of a residential complex in Manchester, England, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a 6,000-unit residential complex and is planned to be constructed in phases.
The first phase will include the construction of 900 homes and associated facilities. This will be developed at six different sites. The first site includes the construction of 302 apartments in three residential buildings with eight to 10-story on 0.97ha land at New Union Street next to the Rochdale Canal.
The Second site includes the conversion of a warehouse to construct 108 apartments, new 16 apartments with five-story, infilling of canal basin at Murrays’ Mill in Bengal Street.
The Sawmill court site includes the construction of 158 one, two and three bed rental apartments as well as a residents’ courtyard and lobby, 80 secure car and 128 secure cycle spaces and club room, 8 commercial units on the ground floor and gym for residents.
The project will also include the construction of a community hall, retail facilities, access roads, parking and related facilities.
Mace group has been appointed as the project manager.
On June 24, 2014, MCC and ADUGDI entered into a 10-year agreement to establish a joint venture company MLDC to oversee the development of the project.
GRAHAM Construction and Eric Wright Construction appointed as construction contractor for the project.
In March 2015, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and RTKL were appointed as Architects for the first phase. Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has been appointed as design contractor on Murrays’ Mill site, RTKL Associates as design contractor on New Union Street site and Deloitte as planner on New Union Street site.
In September 2015, John Sisk & Son was appointed as the construction contractor for the first phase.
In November 2015, enabling works commenced on the first phase.
In May 2016, construction work commenced on Murrays’ Mills site.
In August 2016, Eric Wright Construction commenced the work on Sawmill court site.
Construction works are underway on Murrays’ Mills site and slated to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2017. Construction on Sawmill court site will be completed in the third quarter of 2018. The entire project will be completed by 2027.
