The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) in collaboration with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) is planning to undertake the upgrade of a railway line between in Adriatic coast, Italy.

The project involves the duplication of a 31km railway line. It is divided into three functional lots.

The first lot will include the construction of a 6.8km railway line from Ripalta to Lesina with an investment value of US$120 million.

The second lot will include the construction of 5.9km line from Termoli to Campomarino

The third lot will include the construction of 18.2km line from Campomarino to Ripalta railway line.

The second and third lot together will cost US$620 million.

It will also include the construction of stations, rail tracks, bridges and related infrastructure, and the installation of transmission lines, signaling systems and related electrical equipment.

Italferr SPA has been appointed as consulting engineer.

On August 4, 2005, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, MIT, Molise council (MC), Municipality of Termoli (MoT) and Italian railway network (IRN) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

In 2011, RFI held technical meetings with the concerned authorities.

In May 20, 2013, MIT held administrative consultations with the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL) to discuss funding status.

In October 2014, RFI held administrative consultations.

On January 28, 2015, Comitato Interministeriale Per La Programmazione Economica (CIPE) (Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning) approved the preliminary plan for the first lot.

On July 3, 2015, the resolution for the preliminary plan of the first lot has been published.

In September 2016, notice of initiation of the procedure for approval by the CIPE issued for lot one.

MIT is awaiting planning approvals.
