Summary

Mass Group Holding Ltd (MGHL) is undertaking the construction of a power plant project in Baghdad Governorate, Iraq.

The project involves the construction of a 3,000MW combined cycle gas-fired power plant comprising two phases of 1,500MW each. Each phase includes the installation of two General Electric (GE) 9F series combustion turbine generators (CTG), two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), and a C7 type GE steam turbine generator (STG). It is configured as two blocks of 2x2x1 combined cycle (1,500MW), with an option to expand it to a four block power plant (3,000MW).

The project includes the construction of a water treatment plant, an administrative building, operation and maintenance (O&M) area, a substation, a powerhouse and other facilities to support power block generation including oil unloading, storage and transfer system, fuel gas conditioning and pressure reduction system including generator step-up transformers and main control system, the laying of 132kV transmission line, and the installation of fin-fan coolers and wet type cooling tower.

The project is being financed partly from MGHL’s equity and partly from Iraqi lenders.

ENKA Insaat ve Sanayi A.S. (ENKA) has been appointed as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The scope of work includes lump sum turnkey, design, procurement, construction, start-up, testing and commissioning as well as training of the personnel.

General Electric Company (GE) has been appointed as turbine and generator supply contractor, while ABB Group as supply contractor for substation with the contract value of US$100 million.

Construction activities on the first phase commenced in September 2014.

In September 2016, GE signed US$520 million agreement with MGHL. The agreement includes operation and maintenance services and GE's advanced digital industrial solutions for the project.

Construction works are underway.
