The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region(MDoNER) through National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) is undertaking the upgrade of Dimapur to Kohima road section in Nagaland, India.
The project involves the construction of a 48.8km four-lane road from Dimapur to Kohima. It includes the rehabilitation, the upgrade and widening of the existing carriageway to four-lane standards with the construction of new pavement, bridges, access roads, service roads, pedestrian walkways, culverts and related infrastructure, and the installation of signaling systems.
The project will be constructed in three phases. Phase I is from 123.840 Km to 138.775 Km, Phase II is from 138.775 Km to 152.490 Km, Phase III is from 152.490 Km to 166.700 Km.
In March 2008, the project received planning approval from the Central Government.
In November 2012, NHAI invited a request for qualification (RFQ) for the project with submission due date of December 18, 2012.
In May 2013, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs granted planning approval. The implementation is sanctioned under the phase ‘A’ of the Special Accelerated Road Development Program (SARDP-NE) being implemented in the North Eastern Region.
On January 27, 2014, NHAI invited proposals from the qualified bidders with a submission date of March 11, 2014 to develop the project on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) Annuity basis.
In July 2014, the state government of Nagaland has proposed the Union government to handing over from NHAI to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) since the NHAI could not complete Detailed Project Report on time despite funds being sanctioned. However, NHAI remained as the implementing authority.
On October 24, 2014, NHAI re-invited proposals from the qualified bidders of RFQ stage, with submission due date of November 26, 2014. Later the tender process was scrapped.
On November 3, 2015, foundation stone laying ceremony was held.
On April 26, 2016, NHIDCL signed a contract agreement with Gayatri Projects Ltd for Phase III.
On May 22, 2016, NHIDCL signed a contract agreement with the Joint venture of Ramky and ECI Engineering & Construction co. Ltd for Phase I and Phase II.
In July 2016, land acquisition works completed.
In August 2016, tender activities are underway for appointing a supervising engineer, with a submission date of August 15, 2016.
On August 28, 2016, the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase II held marking the commencement of construction works.
Construction works are underway.
