The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism (MCAT), Bangladesh, plans to undertake the expansion of an airport in Bangladesh.
The project involves the construction of a third terminal building and a cargo facility. It is being developed in two phases.
The first phase includes the construction of the third terminal on 52.6ha of land, a cargo village, a VVIP complex and a domestic terminal with a project value of US$ 1,368 million and the second phase includes a new runway, an extension of apron and other related facilities with a project value of US$294 million.
The project also includes the construction of a parking facility, an air traffic control complex, duty-free shops and other related facilities.
In April 2013, CAAB invited the consultancy firms for the feasibility study.
In May 2014, Yooshin Engineering Corporation (Yooshin), CPG Corporation Pte Ltd (CPG Corp), and Development Design Consultants Limited (DDC) were appointed as feasibility study consultants.
On May 20, 2015, China Airport Construction Group Corporation (CACC) submitted its interest to finance the construction of the terminal.
In June 2015, all preliminary procedures for building the terminal was completed.
CAAB submitted development project proposal (DPP) to Civil Aviation Tourism Ministry.
Nippon Koei Co Ltd has been appointed to build a third terminal and other infrastructural development at the airport.
In February 2016, Japan shows its interest to fund the project and in May 2016, Government of Bangladesh and Japan has finalized the investment agreement for the project.
On November 3, 2016, CAAB issued tender to undertake the extension of apron for the second phase of the project with a submission deadline on February 14, 2017, and the date was extended to June 22, 2017.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will finance the construction.
On June 11, 2017, CAAB has signed design and management consultant contract agreement for the project Development Design Consultants Ltd as design and Oriental Consultants Global Ltd for management consultant.
Construction activities on the project scheduled to commence in April 2018 and are expected to be completed in April 2021.
