Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd (MADC) is planning to undertake the new international airport project at Purandar in Pune, Maharashtra, India.
The project involves the construction of a Greenfield airport on 2,400ha area. The project will include the construction of two 4km long, 60 m wide runways on 506ha area, terminals, parking facility, cargo aprons and retail space, and the installation of led lights, lighting systems, elevators and escalators, safety and security systems.
IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd has been appointed as the strategic adviser.
Earlier, the project was proposed to be developed in Chakan. However, the project location was changed to Khed SEZ in November 2013 due to protest of the local people of Chakan area and later in 2016 the project location was changed to Purandar.
The project has received the planning approvals from both the State government as well as the Airports Authority of India.
In June 2014, due to land issues, the Government was forced to let down plans for Khed SEZ location and start looking for a new location.
In January 2016, land surveys for the development completed.
As of June 2016, three sites have been identified for proposed airport, however, the exact location would be finalized only after the inspection from Airports Authority of India (AAI).
In October 2016, the state government has approved land at Purandar.
In July 2017, Agis India as appointed as study consultant.
Dorsch Consult has been appointed to undertake the techno-economic feasibility.
January 23, 2018, Ministry of Defence gave No Obligation Certificate (NOC) for the project.
Land acquisition activities are underway.
The project involves the construction of a Greenfield airport in Pune, Maharashtra, India.
