Lorenzo Wind, a unit of NextEra Energy Resources LLC is undertaking the construction of Fiber Winds farm in near Lorenzo and Ralls, Texas, the US.
The project involves the construction of an 80MW wind farm on 4,452ha of land. The project includes the construction of a powerhouse and substations, the installation of 29 turbines, wind towers, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
On December 30, 2013, TGE awarded a contract to Alstom SA to supply four ECO110 and 25 ECO122 wind turbines and provide 10 years of service and maintenance for the project.
Turner Biological Consulting, LLC has been appointed as feasibility study consultant, Wireless Innovations LLC as wind study consultant, Evans Engineering, Inc. as radio frequency consultant and Westwood Professional Services Inc as environmental study consultant.
The construction will be primarily financed through the use of production tax credits (PTCs). The development is being financed on an all equity basis. The project received approximately US$100 million PTC equity investment and TGE is arranging for an additional US$35 million to US$40 million in sponsor equity.
In March 2014, preliminary turbine siting, project design and the necessary engineering had been completed.
In March 2017, NextEra signed a long-term power purchase agreement with Xcel Energy.
In June 2017, Lorenzo Wind purchased the project from Tri Global Energy (TGE) and became the new owner for the second phase of the project. Tri Global remained as an associate developer and overseeing the construction activities.
Planning activities are underway. Construction works are expected to commence after the regulatory approvals.
