Summary

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore is undertaking the construction of North-South Corridor (NSC) project connecting various areas in Singapore.

The project involves the construction of a 21.5km dual three-lane carriageway between Admiralty Road West and Toa Payoh Rise and is planned to be executed in different phases. For the largely dual-three lane highway, one lane will be reserved for express bus service. At the surface level, walking paths and cycling lanes will be built.

The route commences at Admiralty Road West in northern Singapore and proceeds southwards along Woodlands Avenue 8, Gambas Avenue, Sembawang Road. It joins Lentor Avenue and intersects the Seletar Expressway.

It comprises a semi-tunnel between Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 and Avenue 9, and an underground tunnel to Marymount Road. It will pass Toa Payoh Rise, join Thomson Road and Bukit Timah Road running parallel to the Central Expressway. The NSC will carry on along Ophir Road, joining the East Coast Parkway at its southern terminus.

Two of the four original car lanes will be converted into wide footpaths lined with trees and benches for pedestrians. A dedicated cycling path will connect Rochor Canal and Bukit Timah to the Central Business District, with more bicycle parking facilities to be added in the area.

It comprises wider pavements and dedicated cycling lane for Bencoolen Street, pilot cycling and walking network models in town Ang Mo Kio, Tampines, with new features in Bidadari and Kampong Bugis.

The project also includes the construction of interchanges, pedestrian ways, cycling paths and retaining walls, and the installation of lighting and overhead sign structures.
