London Luton Airport Ltd (LLAL) is planning to build an MPT system in Luton, Bedfordshire, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a 2.13km MPT system between the Luton Airport and the Luton Airport Parkway main line station. It includes the construction of stations, administrative space and related infrastructure, the installation of equipment, signaling and safety systems, and the laying of tracks.
Arup Group Ltd has been awarded a contract to design the project and assist with procurement of construction contracts.
In April 2016, LLAL unveiled the project plans.
In November 2016, Public consultations were held on the project.
On February 15, 2017, LLAL submitted planning application to Luton Borough Council (LBC) and Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC), while the entire project will be funded by LBC.
On February 22, 2017, LLAL invited pre-qualification bids for design build contract, with a submission due date on March 29, 2017. The two successful contractors (civils and systems) will be required to work together and have the flexibility to evolve the design to deliver the overall scheme.
In June 2017, LLAL secured approval from the LBC.
Pre-Tender activities are underway and construction is expected to be complete by 2021.
