Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is undertaking the construction of a mixed-use project in Punjab, Pakistan.
The project involves the construction of a mixed-use facility along the Ravi riverfront on 50,000ha of land. It is being executed in three phases.
The first phase includes the construction of 120,000 residential plots, a barrage, commercial, industrial, business and recreational hubs and a wastewater treatment plant, the channelisation of river, the revival of its ecology and the development of lakes. It will cost US$9,700 million.
The project will also include the construction of residential units, an institutional complex, a commercial zone, recreational zones and other related facilities.
In August 2013, the Urban Sector Planning and Management Services Unit, Pvt. Ltd (the Urban Unit), a company of the Government of Punjab, on behalf of LDA issued an expression of interest (EOI) for international firms to undertake the project preparatory works under public private partnership (PPP) mode. The contract scope covers hydraulic studies for river training works with options for additional inflows, waste water treatment plants (for Lahore city’s sewage), master planning and urban infrastructure.
In February 2014, Punjab government approved the Project Cost-II (PC-II) for the project and appointed Meinhardt, an Australian firm as consultant for conducting feasibility studies.
In July 2014, Meinhardt submitted the feasibility study report of the project to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) in which wastewater has been identified as hurdle to the project.
On July 20, 2014, a team of four-member delegation from Pakistan visited India to study the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project (SRDP) in which they observed that the cost of the project is too low than that estimated by Meinhardt while preparing a feasibility report.
