Hackney Council (London Borough of Hackney) (LBH) is undertaking the construction of BSF Redevelopment project in the UK.

The project involves the construction, refurbishment, and renovation of schools in the region of Hackney and is planned to be implemented in three phases.

The first phase includes the construction, refurbishment, expansion, and renovation of Clapton Girls' Technology College (formerly Clapton Girls' Academy), Stoke Newington School and The Urswick School (formerly Hackney Free and Parochial School).

The second phase includes the construction, refurbishment, expansion, and renovation of Cardinal Pole Catholic School, Our Lady's Convent High School, and Haggerston School.

The third phase includes the re-building or modernization of Hackney's Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools and pupil referral units (PRUs). The special schools and PRUs which will be benefiting from the third phase of delivery are Stormont House School, Ickburgh School, St John's and Daniel House, Regent's Vocational College and New Vision PRU. The first part of the third phase includes works on Horizon School and Stormont House School, and the second part includes Ickburgh School, Tiger Way KS2/3 PRU, Downsview Road KS4 PRU.

The Downsview School includes the construction of a two-story two-form entry primary school for 430 pupils, along with 89 homes in a tower block ranging from four to 14 story - seven-story higher than the tallest nearby buildings.

LBH and Department of Education selected Mouchel Parkman (MPB Education) as a developer of the project. RM will be providing Information Communications Technology (ICT) services for the proposed program.

MPB Education appointed Avanti Architects, Jestico + Whiles and CH Architects LLP as the architects for the project.

In the first quarter of 2008, MPB Education appointed Balfour Beatty Construction (UK), Wilmot Dixon, Mansell Construction Services Ltd and McLaren Construction as the construction contractors for the project.

RM has been appointed as Financial Advisor for the project.

In November 2008, the contractual financial closure was achieved for the first phase.

In November 2010, the contractual financial closure was achieved on the second phase and construction at the sites followed soon afterward.

In December 2011, construction work of the first phase completed.

In the second quarter 2012, the construction of Cardinal Pole Catholic School and Haggerston School completed. In the fourth quarter of 2013, the construction of Our Lady's Convent High School completed.

Wilmott Dixon has been appointed as the main contractor for Stormont House School, and Avoca CE provided full mechanical and electrical detailed design for the project.

In January 2014, the construction of Stormont House School completed.

In August 2014, the construction of Ickburgh School completed.

In March 2016, LBH submitted a planning application to the Department for Education to set up two new schools in Hackney.

In August 2016, Major refurbishment completed on the Haggerston School.

LBH undertook a feasibility study in 2016 and final proposals for permission are expected to submit in the February 2018.


The project involves the refurbishment of the existing facilities and construction of new educational facilities at Hackney in London, the UK.
