Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) and Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) are planning to construct an industrial hub in Olkaria, Nakuru County, Kenya.
The project involves the construction of five industrial parks on 485ha of land. It includes the construction of manufacturing units, warehouses, administrative space, parking and related infrastructure.
On October 9, 2014, KenGen issued an expression of interest (EOI) for the provision of consultancy services to undertake the feasibility study with a submission deadline as November 4, 2014.
The scope of service is to conduct feasibility studies and strategic environmental impact assessment sustainability study, preparation of master plan, estimating costs of the infrastructural development, prepare a project implementation road-map, institutional framework, marketing plan and financial model.
On March 30, 2015, a request for proposal (RFP) issued for the selection of consultancy services for feasibility studies and development of master plans with a submission deadline on April 22, 2015.
In February 2016, KenGen appointed a South Korean consultant to carry out a feasibility study for the project and in March 2016, a draft of study finalised.
On March 15, 2016, a consultative forum reviewed the Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) of the project.The project will progress to the feasibility study stage where KenGen and all relevant stakeholders will engage to evaluate the feasibility of the project under proposed best practices.
The National Land Commission (NLC) has resolved all the dispute of the vast land in Olkaria where the industrial park is to be constructed.
