Karusa Wind Farm (Karusa) is planning to build a wind farm at Sutherland in Northern Cape, South Africa.

Karusa Wind Farm is a joint venture of Enel Green Power, Pele Green Energy and Karusa Wind Farm Community Trust.

The project involves the construction of a 139.8MW wind farm. It includes the construction of a substation, access roads and related infrastructure facilities, the installation of turbines and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.

In April 13, 2015, Karusa won the wind farm auction under the fourth round of South Africa’s REIPPP.

African Clean Energy Developments (Pty) Limited (ACED) has been appointed as developer for the project.

Vestas Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd has been appointed as turbine supply and installation and operation and management contractor, Consolidated Power Projects (Pty) Ltd as Electrical Balance of Plant contractor and Power Construction (Pty) Ltd as Civil Balance of Plant EPC contractor,

Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr has been appointed as legal adviser and Eaglestone as financial adviser for the project.


The project involves the construction of a 140MW wind farm in Karusa, Northern Cape, South Africa.

The US$175 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a substation

2. Installation of turbines

3. Installation of transformers and generators

4. Laying of transmission lines
