The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is planning to construct the Second Nyali Bridge project in Kenya.

The project involves the construction of a bridge to link Mombasa Island to the North Coast. It includes the construction of two motorized lanes, pedestrian walkways, cycle lanes and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes.

The project will include the construction of corridor Roads on the Mombasa island side namely Abdel Nasser Road and potentially Kisauni Road.

The project is planned to be implemented through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

In January 2015, World Bank agreed to provide funds for the project.

On February 4, 2015, Deloitte Consulting Ltd and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Private Ltd were appointed to undertake a feasibility study, due diligence, transaction planning. Along with to provide project assistance until the financial closure, including marketing it to private investors and is also responsible for bidding and evaluation of contractors.

Earthcare Services Ltd has been appointed as environmental consultant, IsemeKamau and Maema Advocates, and DLA Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr as legal advisors and Timcon Associates as transportation planning and modelling services provider.

On August 6, 2015, KURA unveiled the location for the project. The unveiled location for the project is from public beach at the end of Abdel Nasser Road on Mombasa Island to a point on the Mainland near Nyali Road.

As of January 2017, KURA was in the process of securing funds for the project.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a bridge from public beach at the end of Abdel Nasser Road on Mombasa Island to a point on the Mainland near Nyali Road in Kenya.

The US$100 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of bridge pillars

2. Construction of supporting walls

3. Construction of pedestrian ways

4. Construction of access road

5. Construction of other related infrastructure

6. Installation of traffic control systems
