Kineta Power Pvt. Ltd (KPPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL), is planning to construct a coal-based thermal power plant in Andhra Pradesh, India.

The project involves the construction of a 1,980MW super critical coal based power plant on a 367ha of land and is planned to be developed in two stages using super critical technology.

The stage one of the project will include the construction of a 1,320MW power plant with two units of 660MW each, and the stage two will feature a 660MW power plant.

Further, it will include the construction of substations, chimneys, a cooling unit, a coal storage facility, retaining walls, a powerhouse, a desalination unit and other related facilities, the installation of generators, turbines, heavy transformers, the laying of transmission lines.

BS Envi-tech (P) Ltd has been appointed to undertake Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies and Zeus Infra Management Pvt. Ltd and Energy Infratech Pvt. Ltd as project advisors and managers.

In August 2008, an application was filed with the Ministry of Coal (MOC) for the coal linkage. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and the Ministry of Power recommended Long Term Coal Linkage to MOC for the first phase of the project to an extent of 70% and another 30% of the coal will be imported.

In September 2008, an application was filed with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) for Long Term Open Access (LTOA).

The project has received clearance from Chief Conservator of Forests, Government of Andhra Pradesh, and Ministry of Defense.

In December 2008, term of reference (TOR) for conducting Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) was cleared by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and in July 2009, a final clearance from MoEF was received for the project and in March 2009, public hearing was completed.

As of June 2017, KPPL is in process to obtain necessary approvals.
