Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd (KPCL) is undertaking the port expansion project at the existing Krishnapatnam port in Muthukur mandal of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India.

The project involves the construction and expansion of port with a capacity of 200 million tonnes of cargo handling facilities on 2,677ha of land. The project is being developed in three phases.

The first phase involved the construction and expansion of port with a capacity of 25 million tonnes of cargo handling facility. The project comprises of mainly iron ore, thermal and coking coal and general cargo. Construction work on the project was completed in July 2008 and was commissioned in September 2012.

The second phase involves the construction and expansion of port with a capacity of 37 million tonnes of cargo handling facility. It will include the construction of seven additional berths; four dedicated for coal, two for general cargo & one for containers. It also includes construction of Ro-Ro terminal and liquid bulk terminal with berths for petrochemicals and petroleum products, rig repair and offshore oil drilling.

The third phase involves the construction and expansion of port with cargo handling facility with total births increasing to 42 million tonnes. The construction works on this phase is yet to be started.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has awarded the project to Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd on build, operate, share, transfer (BOST) basis with a concession period of 50 years.

M/s. Hauer Consultants has been appointed as the lead consultant and Howe India Pvt Ltd as the project management consultant.

M/s NATCO consortium has been appointed as the developer and Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd as EPC contractor for the construction.

Duro Felguera (DF) has been awarded to undertake the material and equipment handling system.

In Q4 2017, Construction works on the second phase are completed.

Planning works on the third phase are underway.

Scope

The project involves the construction and expansion of port with a capacity of 200 million tonnes of cargo handling facilities on a 2,677ha area at the existing Krishnapatnam port in Muthukur mandal of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India.

The US$2,219 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of 25 million tonnes of cargo handling facility in the first phase

2. Construction of 37 million tonnes of cargo handling facility in the second phase

3. Construction of 42 million tonnes of cargo handling facility in the third phase
