Kilwa Energy Company Ltd (KECL) plans to build a gas-fired power plant in Kilwa District, in Lindi Region, in Tanzania.
The project involves the construction of a gas-fired power plant with a total power generation capacity of 320MW, of which 210MW will be developed in the first phase.
The project includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, water cooling units, access roads and related infrastructure, the installation of generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
The construction involves 1.6m-diameter gas pipeline from Songo lsland to Dar es Salaam with a branch at Somanga Fungu.
The project will be developed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Transmission Line Agreement (TLA) and Implementation Agreement (IA) have been signed with state-owned power utility Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TESCO).
In August 2015, KECL has finalized Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with TESCO and submitted final gas supply agreement to Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) for their review.
KECL is in the process of finalizing shareholder agreement with TESCO.
As of December 2016, construction is expected to complete for the phase one is 2018 and for the phase two is 2019.
