Norwegian National Rail Administration (Jernbaneverket) and Ministry of Transport and Communications, Finland (MoTC) are planning to undertake the construction of a railway line between Finland and Norway.
The project involves the construction of a 550km railway line from Rovaniemi to Kirkenes. It includes the construction of railway stations, food courts, platforms, storage rooms, parking facilities and rail yard, the installation of signals and safety systems, and the laying of railway track.
The project is planned to be developed in two phases. The first phase is scheduled to be completed by 2020 and the second phase by 2030.
In July 2017, Jernbaneverket and MoTC initiated feasibility studies and are currently underway with scheduled completion by the end of February 28, 2018.
