Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation (JPDC) is undertaking the construction of an environmental resource recycling center in Jeju City, South Korea.
The project involves the construction of an incinerator with a capacity to handle 500 tons of garbage a day and the landfill will be at least 200,000m2 in size.
It includes the construction of a waste recycling unit, storage facilities, processing plants, condenser unit, waste disposal facilities, a pumping unit, incinerators, separation facility and other related infrastructure facilities, and the installation of related machinery, and safety systems.
In October 2015, JPDC conducted environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the project.
On January 13, 2016, JPDC issued tenders for the turnkey contractor for landfill site with submission due date as March 17, 2016 and also issued tenders for incineration facilities with April 6, 2016 as submission due date.
On May 26, 2016, A consortium of Kolon Global Ltd was awarded Design Build (Turnkey) contract for landfill site. The consortium includes: Chunma general construction, Southeast general construction, crews comprehensive construction, and general construction company.
In June 2016, GS Engineering & Construction was selected as preferred bidder for incineration facilities.
On March 17, 2017, construction works commenced and are underway with completion scheduled by February 2019.
