Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) and Ministry of Railways (MoR), India are planning to undertake the construction of a new rail link in India.
The project involves the construction of a 650km rail link from between Indore to Mumbai through Manmad. The project will be implemented in phases. The first phase include the construction of a 339km rail link between Indore to Manmad at a cost of US$1,500 million, however The union government has allocated the 50% cost of the project and the remaining 50% will be shared by the Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh governments.
The second phase include the construction of remaining link between Manmad to MUmbai.
It also includes the construction of a container hub for dispatching export containers from Indore region directly to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), railway stations, tunnels, bridges, access roads, an administrative facility, platforms, and the installation of signaling, safety and security systems, and the laying of railway tracks.
Indian Port Rail Corporation Ltd (IPRCL) will develop the project on behalf of Shipping Ministry.
In February 2016, First phase of the project approved under the 2016 Railway Budget.
In May 2017, The final location survey (FLS) of Indore to Manmad route was completed.
Negotiations are underway between Ministry of Shipping and Ministry of Railways. Final decision is expected in the third quarter of 2017.
