Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Ltd (JKSPDCL) is planning to undertake the construction of Sawalkot Hydroelectric Power Plant project in Jammu & Kashmir, India.
The project involves the construction of a run-of-river 1,856MW hydroelectric power plant on 1,099ha of land and will be executed in two phases.
The first phase includes the construction of 1,406MW hydroelectric power plant comprising six units of 225MW and 56MW power plant.
The second phase includes the construction of 450MW hydroelectric power plant comprising two units of 225MW each.
It also includes the construction of 193m concrete dam, a powerhouse to install turbines, two diversion tunnels of 1,080m and 690m, three power tunnels of 570m, and spillway and access road tunnels of 2,300m, substation, access roads, the laying of transmission lines, the installation of turbines, generators, transformers.
In April 2012, Central Electricity Authority (CEA) of India approved the proposal of Jammu and Kashmir government to enhance the generation capacity of the project from 1,200MW to 1,856MW.
Aquagreen Engineering Management Pvt. Ltd and Aimil Ltd has been appointed as the engineering consultant and RS Envirolink Technologies Pvt. Ltd as the environmental consultant and DMR Hydroengineering & Infrastructures has been appointed as consulting engineer and Norplan A/S has been appointed as study consultant.
The project will receive US$450 million funds from the Industrial development Bank of India (IDBI), State Bank of India (SBI) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC). This amount is inclusive of US$435 million of external commercial borrowings which are counter-guaranteed by the three financial institutions IDBI, SBI and PFC.
In April 2014, JKSPDCL invited Expression of Interest for the selection of a project management consultant for the project.
On January 29, 2016, The State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) held public hearing.
In March 2016, a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) was approved by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and project secured 20 out of 28 approvals. DPR has been examined according to design.
On February 20, 2017, JKSPDCL received approval.
As of December 2017, Joint survey is under process.
