Isagen SA is planning to develop the Canafisto Hydroelectric Power Plant on 5,255ha of land to the northwest of Antioquia, Colombia.

The project involves the construction of a 960MW hydroelectric power plant.

The project includes construction of a concrete-face rock-fill dam of 100m height, a powerhouse, a substation, spillways, tunnels, access roads and related infrastructure, installation of generators and turbines, and the laying of transmission lines.

Ingetec has been appointed as study and engineering design consultant for the project.

On January 2017, Nacional de Licencias Ambientales (Anla) suspended the environmental license for the construction of the Cañafisto hydroelectric plant due to significant loss of tropical dry forest in the Cauca river canyon, near Antioquia.

Isagen SA is evaluating the project and a new licensing process would start with a low power generation capacity.

Study activities are underway.

The project involves the construction of a 960MW hydroelectric power plant to the north-west of Antioquia, Colombia.
