Empresa Brasileira de Infra-Estrutura Aeroportuaria (Infraero), a state-owned airport agency is undertaking the expansion of the Pinto Martins international airport terminal in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil.
The project involves the refurbishment and expansion of passenger terminal at Pinto Martins International Airport. It also includes construction of a new passenger terminal on a 32,000m2 area, an additional car-parking area, a new cargo terminal, control towers and aircraft aprons.
The expansion project will increase the total airport area from 38,000,000m2 to 69,000,000m2 and able to handle eight million passengers per annum.
The project will be funded by Infraero, Federal Government of Brazil and the State Government of Ceara.
The expansion work is being performed in two phases. The first phase of the work was completed in 2013.The second phase of the expansion work will increase the passenger operational capacity to 14.2 million annually.
A consortium CPM Novo Fortaleza formed by a joint venture of Consbem Construcoes, Paulo Octavio Investimentos Imobiliários and MPE Montagens e Projetos has been awarded the EPC contract.
Infraero has canceled the contract of Consortium CPM Novo Fortaleza for the delay of works.
In July 2014, Consortium Encalso - Kallas participated in tender process but did not get approval.
In January 2015, Infraero re-issued the tender for the construction work and Sial Construções won the construction contract.
Fraport AG won the concession contract for 30 years and the contract will be signed by July 2017.
Banco do Nordeste do Brasil S.A. (BNB) will provide the fund for the development of the project.
Construction work is expected to commence by 2018.
