Summary
Imperial Oil Resources Ventures Limited (Imperial) is planning to undertake the development of an in-situ steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) bitumen recovery project in Alberta, Canada.
The involves the construction of a facility with a production capacity of 150,000 barrels of bitumen per day (BPD), based on the development of two phases each with 75,000BPD of initial production.
The project will include the construction of 10 to 15 well pads with seven to 21 well pairs per pad, central processing facilities, reservoirs, bitumen processing facilities, water recycling facility, operations buildings, waste management facilities and other related infrastructure facilities, and the laying of pipelines.
Jacobs Canada Inc. was appointed as the consulting engineer. Imperial initiated the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for Aspen in May 2012.
On December 17, 2013, Imperial has submitted an application for regulatory approvals from provincial authorities.
Addax Engineering Group of Companies Inc. has been appointed as main contractor for the project.
Imperial updated file submitted in December 2013 with a new process for oil sands extracted below ground known as in-situ production.
In May 2016, Alberta environment and parks announced the environmental assessment report for Aspen has been deemed complete.
Imperial is seeking for regulatory approvals and the investment decision on the project is expected in the second quarter of 2018.
