Ilangalethu Solar Power Pty Ltd (ISPPL), a consortium of Emvelo, Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), ACS Cobra Energia, Public Investment Corporation (PIC), Investec and the Karoshoek Community Trust, is planning to undertake the construction of a solar power plant in Northern Cape, South Africa.
The project involves the construction of a 100MW CSP plant. It includes the construction of a substation, an equipment room for the transformation of energy, and access roads, the installation of solar panels, inverters, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
Savannah Environmental (Pty) Ltd has been appointed as environmental consultant for the project. WorleyParsons Ltd appointed as Master planner.
MetroGIS (Pty) Ltd in collaboration with V&L Landscape Architects has been appointed to prepare the visual assessment report.
Scherman Colloty & Associates (SC&A) has been appointed to submit a water resource assessment report.
In October 2013, Groupo Cobra (a subsidiary of Abengoa Solar) was appointed as construction, operation and maintenance contractor for the project.
In the third quarter of 2014, construction works were commenced.
In December 2014, Eskom concluded power to purchase, implementation and direct agreements for the project.
In August 2016, Nedbank, Standard Bank, Investec, Absa Bank, Industrial Development Corporation, Development Bank of Southern Africa, Public Investment Corporation, and Vantage Bank are funding the project. Norton Rose Fulbright is acting as the legal advisor for the project’s sponsors, while Baker & McKenzie will be acting for the lenders. Fieldstone Africa and Arista were the project’s financial advisors.
SENER was appointed as engineering, procurement, construction and start-up management, in addition to participating in the O & M (Operation and Maintenance) for 20 years.
