Summary

Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) are jointly planning to expand the Barrie Rail Corridor in Ontario, Canada.

The project involves the construction of second rail track between Landsome Avenue in the City of Toronto to Allandale Waterfront GO Station in the City of Barrie, sound protection and retaining walls and a new train layover facility within Bradford West Gwillimbury, the upgrade of GO stations at Rutherford, Maple, King City, Aurora, Newmarket, East Gwillimbury, Bradford, Barrie South and Allandale Waterfront, signal systems, culverts and bridges, and the expansion of bridges at Sheppard Avenue West, Major Mackenzie Drive and Yonge Street.

Hatch Mott MacDonald Group Inc. and MMM Group Ltd have been appointed as Engineering Consultants and R.J. Burnside & Associates Ltd as environmental consultants.

In July 2016, public consultations were carried out as part of the preliminary planning activities.

In November 2016, the transit project assessment process (TPAP) of the project completed.

An online survey was undertaken on the TPAP of the project from May 11, 2017, to June 1, 2017.

Pre-installation of pedestrian tunnel sections under the track of the Aurora GO station and the design of the Barrie South Station parking expansion was completed in March 2017.

Pre-installation of pedestrian tunnel sections under the track of the Maple Station was completed in May 2017.

On May 2, 2017, IO and Metrolinx issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the Rutherford Station Project under design, build and finance basis. Teams that qualify will be invited to respond to a request for proposals in the third quarter of 2017.

On June 8, 2017, IO and Metrolinx issued an RfQ for the project under build and finance contract.

Pre-tender activities are underway.

IO and Metrolinx are anticipating to issue Request for Proposals (RfPs) for the project in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Scope

The project involves the expansion and upgrade of the Barrie Rail Corridor, Ontario, Canada.

The US$2,200 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a second track between Landsome Avenue in the City of Toronto to Allandale Waterfront GO Station in the City of Barrie

2. Construction of sound protection and retaining walls

3. Construction of a new train layover facility within the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury
