International Metallics Corporation (IMC) through its subsidiary Société Internationale Métallique (SIM) is planning to construct a direct reduced iron (DRI) manufacturing plant project in Quebec, Canada.

The project involves the construction of a 2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) direct reduced iron manufacturing plant.

It includes the construction of production units, processing units, warehouses, an administrative facility and other infrastructure related facilities, and the installation of related machinery and equipment.

On January 16, 2014, the Douglas County Board of Supervisors approved a cooperation agreement with the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Superior on behalf of IMC, to transfer the Parkland Industrial site for development of the project.

Barr Engineering Co. has been appointed as environmental consultant; Krech Ojard & Associates as site engineering design consultant; and Midrex Technologies Inc. as technical consultant.

Initially, the project was planned to be located at Superior in Wisconsin of US, but the place was abandoned due to routing problems of inputs. In April 2015, IMC selected Becancour Waterfront Industrial Park as the new preferred location.

Midrex Technologies, Inc and Primetals Technologies were appointed as supply contractors.

On April 19, 2017, SIM announced the favorable results of pre-feasibility study on the project.

IMC has submitted the environmental impact study to the Ministry of Sustainable Development and the Environment and Climate Change (MDDELCC) and awaiting approvals. Subject to the necessary approvals, construction works are scheduled to commence in 2018 with completion scheduled by 2020.
