Irrigation & CAD Department (ICAD) is undertaking the J.Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Development project in Warangal, Telangana, India.
The project involves lifting of water over 300m through series of 14 balancing reservoirs. The project is being developed over three phases.
The first phase of the project involves the construction of facilities for lifting 5.18TMC of water to irrigate 48,562ha area, excavation of North main canal and distributaries to irrigate 12,545ha and excavation of South main canal and distributaries to irrigate 37,109ha of land.
The second phase of the project involves the construction of lifting facilities of 7.25TMC of water to irrigate 115,335ha of land.
The third phase involves the construction of three rows of 38.75km, each of 3m diameter pipeline from river Godavari at Gangaram village to Bheemghanpur tank in Warangal district of Telangana. It also includes the construction of three tunnels with combined length of 89km.
The state owned Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS Ltd) carried out the study works for the project development.
Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) and Kirloskar Brothers Ltd (KBL) were appointed as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors for first phase of the project.
HCC and Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) were appointed as EPC contractors for second phase. Hindustan Construction Co. Ltd (HCC), SEW Infrastructure Ltd (SEW), Megha Engineering & Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL), Andritz AG and CKD Blansko Engineering (CKD) and Coastal Projects Ltd were appointed as EPC contractors for third phase, Jyothi Ltd as project manager.
The construction works on first and second phase were completed in March 2008 and November 2009 respectively.
The Telangana State government has requested the Ministry of Water Resources of India, to allocate US$300 million funding.
Construction activities on the third phase are underway.
