The Israel Airports Authority (IAA) is undertaking the Ilan and Assaf Ramon International Airport project at Timna, Eilat, Israel.
The project involves the construction of a new international airport. It includes the construction of 3,600m runway,30,000m2 passenger terminal, waiting area, taxiways, air traffic control tower, retail units, restaurants, sewage system and parking space and the installation of safety and security systems.
The project site is near the port of Aqaba. Hence, IAA should obtain necessary approvals from the Jordan government.
In July 2011, the project was approved by the government of Israel.
Mann Shinar Architects and Planner; Amir Mann-Ami Shinar Architects & Planners; and Moshe Tzur Architects & Town Planners Ltd were appointed as the design consultants for the project.
Groisman Engineering has been appointed as the consulting engineer for the project.
The construction of the new airport will take place in three stages over a span of 3-4 years.
On October 17, 2012, IAA issued tenders for the appointment of a contractor to provide earthworks and infrastructure, the relocation of existing infrastructure (i.e. water and electric lines), drilling and other preparatory activities for the project.
On April 25, 2013, Barad Company for Landworks, Development and Roads Ltd was appointed to undertake earthworks and infrastructural work for the project.
In May 2013, the cornerstone was laid.
In June 2013, the construction works on the project commenced.
In March 2015, Danya Cebus Ltd was appointed as a contractor to build the passenger terminal.
In October 2016, construction work on the runway was completed.
On August 1, 2017, JR/Duty Free has been awarded the ten-year duty-free contract.
Construction works are underway and expected to get completed by end of 2017.
