Huchems Fine Chemical Corporation (Huchems), a subsidiary of Taekwang Industry Group, is undertaking the construction of a chemical complex in Sarawak, Malaysia.
The project involves the construction of a chemical complex over an area of 825,000m2 and being implemented in two phases.
The first phase includes the construction of a manufacturing plant with a production capacity of 600,000 tonnes of ammonia, 400,000 tonnes of nitric acid and 200,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate per year over an area of 330,000m2.
The second phase of the project includes the construction of a manufacturing plant for downstream products, such as polyurethane, synthetic fiber, and fertilizer, with the materials produced in the first phase plant over an area of 495,000m2.
The second phase will enable the vertical integration of first phase produced materials and likely to start after the completion of first phase.
The project includes the construction of production units, storage units, distribution units, administrative space, related infrastructure facilities, and the installation of machinery.
In October 2011, Huchems signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sarawak state government.
In June 2015, Huchems signed a MoU with ACFM Engineering and Construction Sdn Bhd, to undertake earthworks on the first phase and the same commenced.
In July 2015, ground breaking ceremony held on the project.
In 2016, Huchems relocated the project site to Samalaju Industrial Area and in November 2016, Petronas signed a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Huchems for the supply of 58 mmscfd of natural gas for the project implementation.
Planning activities on the project are underway.
