The Hawaii State Judiciary (HSJ) is undertaking the construction of a new judiciary complex on 4ha of land in Hawaii, the US.
The project involves the construction of a three-story judiciary complex over an area of 13,285m2. It includes the construction of five courtrooms, conference rooms, holding cells, a law library, an administrative building, leisure space, 300 parking space and related facilities, and the installation of safety and security systems.
In December 2008, Group 70 International Inc completed the survey to find out the feasible seven sites.
In February 2012, the Government approved the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the project.
In March 2012, two sites were shortlisted for the project namely Kealakehe Parkway and Ana Keohokalole Highway.
In April 2012, Kealakehe Parkway was selected as the construction site for the project but later the plan was revised and Makalapua center was selected as the final site in October 2013.
Architects Hawaii Ltd. has been appointed as architect, Nan Inc. as the construction contractor and
HSFCA Works of Art Special Fund providing funding.
In April 2014, Senate Ways and Means Committee (Hawaii State Legislature) agreed to contribute US$35 million towards the construction of the project.
On December 19, 2014, Preliminary designs for the planned Judiciary Complex were revealed.
On April 28, 2015, HSJ received funding of US$55 million from Hawaii State Legislature.
Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) has been appointed as construction manager.
On October 24, 2016, ground breaking ceremony was held.
Construction activities are underway and the construction is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2019.
