Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL) is planning to construct the Thana Plaun hydroelectric power plant in Himachal Pradesh, India.
The project involves the construction of a 191MW hydroelectric power plant on a 445ha of land.
The project includes the construction of a 107m high RCC dam, an intake structure, a power tunnel system, an underground powerhouse, a tunnel tailrace tunnel and a substation, the installation of generators and transformers and the laying of transmission lines.
The underground powerhouse contains five units of Francis turbines generating 3 x 50.33MW and 2 x 20MW each, with a total design discharge of 229.29m3/s and a net head of about 73m.
In August 2013, the Government of Germany, through its financing agency KfW, agreed to finance around US$278 million for the power plant under Himalaya Hydropower program.
On January 16, 2014, tenders were invited to carry out detailed survey and investigation work with a submission deadline of January 28, 2014.
In February 2014, KfW Group agreed to fund US$278 million for the project.
On June 16, 2014, tenders invited to carry out drilling and drifting works with a submission deadline of June 26, 2014.
Himachal Pradesh government is going to fund the project by providing 20% of equity.
In October 2015, HPCL submitted detailed project report (DPR) to the Central Electricity Authority and the Central Water Commission for the techno-economic clearance.
In April 2016, the HPPCL has requested various consultants and firms for Invitations for Expression of Interests for the project.
