Summary

Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd (HAL) is planning to build a third runway and sixth terminal at Heathrow Airport in London, the UK.

The project involves the construction of a 2,200m runway. It includes the construction of parallel taxiways, cross-taxiways, 42 aircraft stands and associated piers, a passenger terminal building, baggage and aircraft handling facilities, and a new air-traffic control tower.

The project was approved by the government in January 2009. However, in May 2010, the project was placed on hold by the new government due to its huge cost and a potential increase in Britain's carbon emissions.

In July 2015, project plans were revived.

HAL appointed Mott MacDonald as master planner.

On December 10, 2015, the government has delayed a decision on whether to build a new runway at Heathrow Airport.

In October 2016, the government decided to go ahead with the expansion and a public consultation will likely to be held in 2017.

On December 1, 2016, HAL revealed a team of seven design contractors for four-year term named as Integrated Design Team (IDT) comprising Amec Foster Wheeler, Arup, Atkins, Grimshaw, Mott MacDonald, Jacobs and planning consultancy Quod for the project.

On February 2, 2017, HAL published the plans and began public consultation process.
