Shangani Energy Exploration (SEE), a joint venture between Zimasco Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, Sinosteel Corporation and Paul Lweis Tromp is planning to construct a coal bed methane (CBM) gas field development in Gwayi, Zimbabwe.

The project involves the development of coal bed methane gas field with a power generation capacity of up to 400MW to be executed in two phases.

The first phase includes the construction of a 12MW power station and drilling of 38 wells.

The second phase includes the construction of additional 388MW power facilities and drilling of 1,000 plus wells.

The project will include the construction of compressor stations, storage tanks, pumping stations and related infrastructure, the installation of valves and equipment, and the laying of pipelines.

SEE submitted a proposal for the initial concession for an estimated 660 billion cubic meters, which was reduced by the government.

SEE is in place with three production and exploration grants and applied to the ministry of mines for the renewal of its special grants.

Additional on-site field testing and exploration activities for the availability of coal bed methane (CBM) started in 2014 and are completed.

Planning activities are underway.
