The State Government of Rio de Janeiro is planning to build the metro line-3 between São Gonçalo and Niterói in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The project involves the construction of metro line-3 between the São Gonçalo and Niterói. The project will include the construction of 14 stations, tunnels, transmission lines and the installation of the signaling system, security system and other facilities. The 22km metro line will start at Plaza Arariboia in Niterói and end in Guaxindiba, São Gonçalo.

The metro line-3 connects to 14 stations between the São Gonçalo and Niterói and the full line will be formed by the subway stations of Araribóia, Jansen de Mello, Barreto e Pátio, Neves, Vila Laje, Paraíso, Parada 40, Zé Garoto, Mauá, Antonina, Trindade, Alcântara, Jardim Catarina and Guaxindiba.

The first phase linking the Barreto and Alcântara, is expected to complete in June 2016 and the full stretch to Guaxindiba is expected to be completed by 2018.

The project aims to start the path at the Arariboia Station, designed by Arquiteto Oscar Niemeyer and built on a 24,000m2 area in the center of Niterói. The station Arariboia will be integrated into an intermodal terminal to be built, which will serve about 600,000 passengers per day. The other terminal is Guaxindiba in São Gonçalo, located near BR-101, which will allow intermodal integration with the municipalities of Tanguá, Rio Bonito and Mage.

The State government of Rio de Janeiro is developing the project with the contribution of the federal government of Brazil. The State Government contributes 59% funds and the federal government of Brazil contributes 41%.

The project will be developed under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The project is being evaluated for the scope of the Metro Master Plan.
