The Government of Mozambique (GoM) is undertaking the renovation of 288km a highway between Beira and Machipanda in Mozambique.
The project involves the renovation of a highway, the construction an overpass, side streets and pedestrian walkways.
The construction involves two weigh bridges, three toll plazas, six police checkpoints and 50 public transport stops, and will involve a combined length of 1,652 meters, along with seven aqueducts.
The Beira to Machipanda highway will connect the Beira to Inhamizua link with four lanes and Inhamizua to Machipanda linl with two lanes.
The project also includes the renovation of 1.7km bridge and the construction of 250m new bridge with two lanes on Pungue River.
The renovation will include the branch of National Road Seven (EN7), which links the port of Beira to borders of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Chinese export-import bank, EXIM Bank, is financing the project with a US$400 million contribution.
A Chinese company, Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Corp - AFECC has been awarded construction for the project.
Construction activities has been started in July 2014.
Construction activities are underway and is expected to complete by the second quarter of 2018.
