The Government of Karnataka (GoK) is planning to undertake the Bangalore Monorail project in Karnataka, India.
The project involves construction of 60km monorail network. The project will be executed in four phases as two red lines, one green line and one blue line.
The first phase will include construction of 31km monorail system which will connect Hebbal with J P Nagar along the western portion of outer ring road.
The second phase will include construction of 9km monorail system long connecting Peripheral Ring Road with Toll Gate along Magadi Road.
The third phase will include construction of 5km monorail system connecting Kathriguppe Ring Road Junction with National College.
The fourth phase will include construction of nearly 15km monorail system which will connect Hosur Road with Bannerghatta Road.
The project will further include the construction of stations other related infrastructural facilities, and the installation of signals, electric lines, ticketing systems and security systems.
The project will be developed as public private partnership (PPP) on design, build, finance, own and transfer (DBFOT) mode.
In November 2009, Scomi Engineering Bhd (Scomi), a subsidiary of Malaysia-based Scomi Group Bhd, entered into a joint bidding agreement with Geodesic Techniques Pvt. Ltd (Geodesic) to jointly bid to design, build, own, operate and transfer the proposed monorail corridors.
In July 2011, Scomi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ITNL Enso Rail System (IERS), a subsidiary company of IL&FS Transportation Network Ltd (ITNL) as its financial partner.
In July 2016, Scomi and Geodesic are awaiting approvals from the Government of Karnataka towards the further development of the project.
Capita Symond and Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) appointed as study consultants and will prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the project.
The GoK is planning to issue a tender for the development of phase I and phase II of the project.
