Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is planning to undertake the construction of a desalination plant in Andhra Pradesh, India.
The project involves the construction of a water desalination plant with a processing capacity of 100 million liters per day (MLPD). It includes the construction of purification units, storage facilities, pumping stations, metering stations and other related facilities, the installation of equipment, and the laying of pipelines.
AP Industrial and Technical Consultancy Organization Ltd (APITCO) has been appointed as study consultant.
On November 28, 2012, APITCO submitted a preliminary project report.
On July 7, 2014, the project received in-principle approval from the State Government of Andhra Pradesh.
In April 2016, GVMC is waiting for the plans on how to move ahead and design the project.
In January 2017, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between IDE Technology and government of Visakhapatnam for the development of the project.
Planning activities are underway on the project.
