Ghana Grid Company Ltd (GRIDCo), PSC Tema Shipyard (PSC) and Sea Trucks Group (Sea Trucks) and Ministry of Energy, Ghana (MoE) are undertaking the construction of a wave farm in Ada Foah, Greater Accra Region, Ghana.
The project involves the construction of a 1,000MW wave energy farm. It includes the construction of power related infrastructure, the installation of turbines and power control units, and the laying of transmission lines.
Swede Energy (SE) and TC's Energy Ltd (TCE) has been appointed as associate developers.
In May 2014, Seabased AB entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SE and TCE to supply the equipment and related machinery.
In July 2014, TCE entered into a power purchase agreement with Electricity Company of Ghana for the development.
TCE plans to produce 5MW of power by December 2014, and periodically upgrade its capacity by 200MW to 1,000MW by December 2016.
In November 2014, TCE is waiting for delivery of the first batch of equipment for installation.
In January 2015, construction works commenced.
In March 2015, TCE did a successful test generation of 14MW, installation works on the six-power generation converters completed.
In February 2016, TCE ordered Seabased for a second 5MW wave power plant to be installed.
In March 2016, installation of second 5MW wave power plant is underway.
