Gaia Power Ltd (GPL) is planning to undertake the construction of a biomass power station in County Durham, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a 50MW biomass power plant. The project will include the construction of a fuel storage facility, processing facilities, a decomposer unit, boiler units, a substation and a powerhouse, the installation of turbines, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines.
The fuel for the station would comprise 275,000 tonnes of recycled wood a year in chipped form.
The wood for the GPL plant would be collected, sorted and shredded off site by a specialist renewable wood recycler under a long-term agreement.
RENEW and Aker Solutions has been appointed as consulting engineer; URS Corporation appointed as geotechnical consultant for the project.
In October 2009, project received planning approval from the Stockton Council.
GPL is in the process of securing funds for the project.
