Genex Power Ltd (GNX) is planning to build a hydroelectric power plant near Einasleigh, Queensland, Australia.

The project involves the construction of a 250MW hydroelectric power plant with adjacent mine pits acting as the upper and lower reservoirs for the Pumped Storage Scheme.

A concrete lined pressure tunnel will be built to connect the upper reservoir to the underground generation powerhouse. A concrete lined tailrace tunnel will, in turn, connect the powerhouse to the lower reservoir. A shaft from surface will connect the underground infrastructure to a surface power control room, which will be connected to a transformer station located on an existing pit bench.

The project will also include onsite power distribution substation, a water pipeline from the Copperfield Dam directly to the Kidston site and associated infrastructural facilities.

In May 2015, Genex lodged a prospectus for an initial public offer, ahead of listing on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in July 2015. The company plans to use these funds for feasibility study, as working capital for the company, and to fund annual maintenance costs associated with the project.

In August 2015, Entura was appointed as feasibility study consultant. The scope of the contract covers bankable feasibility study, subcontracted investigations, including geotechnical investigations, a bathymetric survey; also manage environmental and planning approvals for the project site.

China Hydropower Engineering Consulting Group Co., Ltd (HYDROCHINA) and ARENA have been appointed as study consultants.

In December 2015, The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) will finance US$2.9 million for the feasibility study.

On November 8, 2016, technical feasibility study was completed.

Construction works are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2017 and completed in 2021.

GNX is in the process of achieving project finance.
