Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Co., Ltd (GFNPC), a joint venture between China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group and Guangxi Investment Group, is constructing Fangchenggang nuclear power plant near southwestern region of Guangxi in China.
The project involves the construction of 6,480MW nuclear power plant in two phases. The first phase has two units of 1,080MW each and second phase has two units of 1,080MW each, powerhouse, substation and fire protection circuit.
Two more units are proposed which is Unit 5 and Unit 6.
The project will use CPR 1000 type reactors for power generation. The first phase of the nuclear plant was approved by NDRC in October 2008, and again in July 2010 and second phase is waiting for approval.
Construction and operation activities of the nuclear power plant will be implemented by Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Co., Ltd., a joint venture between China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group and Guangxi Investment Group.
In October 2009, a general construction contract was signed with CNPEC & CNPDC for the development of the project.
In July 30, 2010 Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Co., Ltd celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony to start Construction activities on the project phase one.
Construction of unit III was started on December 24, 2015 and construction unit IV was on December 23, 2016.
China Construction Second Engineering Bureau Ltd has been appointed as the EPC contractor for Unit III and unit IV.
The construction of unit I and II has been completed.
Construction activities are underway for unit III and IV.
